As part of the fight against COVID 19, the Imagine le Monde Association received a food and health donation in August from the National Program for Solidarity and Social Cohesion. This donation was, among other things, made up of flour.
It was decided to use this flour donation to support women in their activity or in the launch of a resource-generating activity (IGA)…
The social service has identified women among the beneficiaries of the association’s various programs. After a social assessment of their situation and their ability to carry out a sales activity, 15 women were selected.
Ten of them were already carrying out an activity selling Donuts, cakes, cakes and five others were either out of business for lack of means (1) or without activity still for lack of means but had a place to sell (4 ).
The first handover of flour (10kg/woman) took place on Friday, September 25. It will be followed, after an initial assessment of their activity, by a second delivery of 10kg of flour.
During this handover, the social service made the women aware of the importance of literacy, an undeniable factor of empowerment! Eight women are concerned and it has been proposed to them to join the association’s literacy course which will begin in October.
The social service also discussed with the women the possibility of creating a women’s association similar to the AVEC* (Association Villageoise d’Epargne et de Crédit). The entire group has endorsed this proposal, which will be implemented in the coming days. The women will be supported by the social service in its implementation.
We wish all these women success in their activity and in their self-help association!
*A Village Savings and Loan Association (AVEC) is a group of 15 to 25 people who save together and make small loans from these savings. VSLA activities operate in “cycles” lasting approximately one year, after which the accumulated savings and the profits from the loans are distributed among the members in proportion to the amount they have saved.
Tuesday, October 13, the social service began its monitoring and evaluation of IGAs with the visit of the first two women beneficiaries of the flour donation. Thanks to him, both were able to make donuts, the sale of which boosted their business and therefore their income.
Friday, October 16, was held at the AIM the first meeting of the AVEC. For this first meeting, the women were guided by a social worker trained in this practice.
